2023 Reverie Reserve
A big hit and award winner at the Livermore TASTE event, 2024.
This Burgundian varietal is made in the opulent Northern California style with a foundation of French winemaking techniques. Fermented and aged 20 months in new beautiful French Oak. Never butter - think crème brûlée and French pastry with well integrated oak. This unreleased vintage earned 96 points and the previous vintages were awarded Double Gold and 95 points.
TASTING NOTES
Excellent fruit expression with the balance of refined oak. The barrel imparts a richness and elegant aroma without overwhelming the other flavors. The French winemaking style is evident with the nice mouthfeel, lingering creaminess and a protracted finish.
HARVEST INFO
The hard working manual harvest team started at 2 AM and was finished before sunrise. The fruit was then immediately placed in the well chilled winery. This was done to keep the grapes as fresh as possible and capture the desired sugar / acid profile. Mother Nature was kind to us winemakers with nominal temperatures, nice hang time for the fruit to mature and no fires.
WINEMAKING
Whole cluster pressing followed by barrel fermentation and sur lie aging for 20 months (sitting on the yeast lees to promote wine stability and enhance creaminess without becoming buttery). The extended aging and the time on the lees results in a richness and creaminess. The quality of these barrels and the nature of the fruit resulted in a balance of oak aroma, lingering finish and rich fruit.
