2024 Austenitic Chardonnay
Overwhelming winner at the annual Livermore Taste our Terroir event 2025 for People's Choice.
It is made with fruit from our Livermore Valley farm estate which is the French Dijon clone of this varietal. The harvest takes place in the cool of 2AM to optimize the sugar balance and pick the grapes when they are plump and firm.
The taste is uncommon in chardonnays. The fruit is nicely featured with an exceptionally bright and crisp presence accompanied by tropical notes. The low oxygen nature of this winemaking technique yields no creaminess or oak hues. A wine expert with whom I recently tasted this wine compared it to an ultra-technical German approach to wine making.
